The Rhodes & White Family Connection Timeline 

Mike White's Theory of the William Rhodes that would be the father of our John & grand father to Lewis Rhodes.

This is an attempt to show a connect to a William Rhodes family.  I have studied this family in the Union Co SC area, Three of our White's from Union and Spartanburg married into the Family of John Rhodes, son a of Wm Rhodes.

Have tracked this family from Union Co SC to Richmond Co GA, and I believe I have come up with a story, that makes some sense, however, biased...  :)

My suspicion is Mary White Rhodes (wife of Lewis Rhodes), inspired her brother Tillman White, to marry Lewis's sister, Sarah Rhodes and her niece Susan White (dau Robt White Jr) to Mary her son Absolom Rhodes.  I believe Tillman White married Sarah Rhodes after, mother, Mary Bobo Rhodes returned to Union Co SC from Richmond Co GA, after the death of her husband John Rhodes.  I am convinced, Absalom came to Spartanburg Co SC, about 1836, to marry Susan White, and immediately returned to Richmond Co GA, with his new bride in tow.

2.   1739 - Elizabeth Wofford is born, Prince George Co MD, abt. 1739.

3.   1760 - Wm & Elizabeth are married in Union District SC (Old 96th) abt. 1760.

4.   1761 - John Rhodes is born, abt. 1761 Possibly in SC.

5.   1769 - Mary Bobo is born 1769, possibly in SC. 

6.   1770 - William Rhodes Family living on Grant land on Tiger & Eonree Rivers area, 
                an Elizabeth is his wife. (2nd wife Elizabeth Wofford? 1st MaryWofford?). 

7.   1776 - B, 298-301: Lease and release. 29 Jan 1776, Wm Rhodes and Elizabeth his
                wife of Tyger River of South Carolina, cooper, to Jesse Dodd of Enoree 
                River in provice aforesaid, for L500 current money of SC, 300 acres in 
                Craven County on a ridge between Tyger and Enoree rivers, granted 24 Aug
                1770. William Rhodes (W) (Seal), Elizabeth Rhodes (X) (Seal), Wit: Thos
                Dod, Jno Rhodes, Zilphe Linch (X).  Proved by the oath of Jno Rhodes 
                in Union County 25 Dec 1789 before Thos Brandon, J. P. Recorded 
                30 Dec 1789.  NOTE: Part of Craven Co SC, later became Union Co SC

8.   1776 - In my opinion, Wm Rhodes & Elizabeth may have moved after the
                above Lease & Release, John Rhodes remaining in Union Co SC. Wm
                does not appear again in Union Co, documents, after the above transaction. 

9.   1780 - There is a DAR or SAR on file at the NSDAR, for Wm. Rhodes, states;
                 b. 3 Jan 1723? Svc: SC, Rank: Lt, Died: SC 1787, Spouse: Elizabeth Wofford.

10.  1787 - John Rhodes marries Elizabeth Bobo, children: Lewis & Biram Rhodes.

11.  1788 - Robert White Sr arrives and owns land along the Tiger River 1788.     

12.  1788 - William Rhodes is said to have died in Union Co SC. (96th Dist)          

13.  1792 - Pp. 89-92 - Jesse Dobb of Union Co bound to Andrew Torrence of same,
                for 40,000 pounds of inspected tobacco, to be delivered at Mr Darby's store, 
                1 Dec 1792, tract of 300 acres on the ridge between Tyger and Enree rivers
                formerly granted to William Rhoads, 24 Aug 1770...."

16.  1796 - Elizabeth Bobo Rhodes dies Bef. 1796. Probably Union Co SC.

17.  1796 - John Rhodes marries Mary Bobo 1796 Union Co SC, where the Bobo
                family lives. (Mary could be the younger sister of Elizabeth Bobo)

18. 1800 - About 1796 John & Mary move to Richmond Co GA. 

19. 1808 - John Rhodes dies 6 Jan 1808 Bedford Richmond Co GA. 

20. 1810 - Mary Bobo Roads (Rhodes) living back in Union Co SC, 1810 census.

21. 1810 - Lewis Roads (Rhodes) living next door to Mary Rhodes (step-mother).

22. 1810 - Robert White Sr's daughter Elizabeth  marries Soloman Bobo Jr. 

23. 1810 - Mary White marries Lewis Bobo Rhodes 5 Jul 1810 Union Co SC.

24. 1810 - aft. 1810 Robt's son Tillman marries Sarah Rhodes dau of John Rhodes
                & Mary Bobo Rhodes, and moves to GA probably after death of Mary.
                
25. 1812 - Jan 6, 1812 --- Absolom Rhodes Sr. appointed guardian of Sarah Rhodes
                dau. of John Rhodes, decd, at her request. (Court appointed)

26. 1812 - Kindred Bobo (Mary's brother) appointed guardian remaining children;
                Biram (Bixam), Hiram, Pamela, Susan, Minnina Rhodes, they are living
                on mothers 152 acres in Union Co SC, with exception of Bir(x)am?          

27. 1814 - Lewis Rhodes is witness to land sale by Robt. White Sr. in Laurens Co
                SC. Lewis had already married Robert's daughter Mary White in 1810. 

28. 1815 - Mary Bobo Rhodes dies Union Co SC, wife of John Rhodes,  
                    mother of Lewis. Mary's last will and testiment was dated 7 Apr 1815 
                UC SC, probated Nov 22 1815, in UC SC. Hiram mentioned on Will,
                bro. Kindred Exec.

29. 1815 - Aft. 1815 Lewis & wife Mary White Rhodes move to Richmond Co GA.

30. 1815 - Aft. 1815 Lewis moves into the 'Old A. W. Rhodes Home in Hephzibah
                GA, mentioned in book 'A Lost Arcadia'. (Probably uncle Absalom Sr.)

31. 1815 - Aft. 1815 Tillman & Sarah (Rhodes) White, move to GA.
                Tillman is said to have died in GA, no more is found on this couple.

32. 1820 - Cannot find census for Lewis Rhodes.

33. 1830 - Richmond Co Census shows Lewis Rhodes for the First time.

34. 1836 - Absalom Rhodes (Son of Lewis) marries Susan White (dau Robt White Jr.)
                he returned to Spartanburg Co SC to marry and moved back to GA.

35. 1836 - Lewis Rhodes, now deceased, 4 Feb 1836 Richmond Co GA.

36. 1840 - Mary White Rhodes (wife of Lewis, decd) living Richmond Co GA
                with 4 sons and one daughter, 1840 census.

37. 1840 - Susan White & Absalom appear on 1840 Richmond Co GA Census.

38. 1850 - Mary White Rhodes (wife of Lewis, decd) now living with son Thomas
                Rhodes, merchant. 1850 Census.

39. 1850 - Susan White & Absalom appear on 1850 Richmond Co GA Census.

40. 1860 - Mary White Rhodes (wife of Lewis, decd) living with son Thomas
                Rhodes, merchant. 1860 Census.

41. 1860 - Susan White & Absalom "Haven't located 1860 Census, as of yet".

42. 1870 - Mary White Rhodes (wife of Lewis, decd) living with son Thomas
                Rhodes, merchant. 1870 Census.

43. 1870 - Susan White & Absalom appear on 1870 Richmond Co GA Census.

44. 1875 - Mary White Rhodes, now deceased, 9 Oct 1875.

45. 1893 - Absalom Rhodes, now deceased, 21 Apr 1893 Augusta Richmond Co GA

46. 1895 - Susan White Rhodes, now deceased, 4 Aug 1895 Augusta Richmond
                Co GA
