1.  SION¹ PRICHARD was born Abt. 1810, and died Bef. 1850 in Houston Co., Texas.  He married MILDRED WHITE January 25, 1832 in Lowndes County, Alabama, daughter of STEPHEN WHITE and NANCY Betterton, daughter of Thomas and Palatia [Bailey] Betterton.

Zion Prichard is closely identified by Stephen White throughout all documents I have found from early Texas history.  Zion and his wife evidently died between 1846 and 1850 because neither he nor his wife appear on census reports; however, his children do appear with a Stephen White in the 1850 census reports.  Further documentation is needed; however, I believe that Zion Prichard's wife's maiden name was White.

 

On the Index to Military Rolls of the Republic of Texas 1835-1845, under the command of H.N. Cleveland, Company of Mill Creek Volunteers, Jul 1, 1836 (A3: T1 p75-76), S. Prichard is listed as a volunteer.  This is probably the Sion Prichard who is the father of Malissa Ann Prichard Allphin.

2.  MALISSA ANN² PRICHARD (SION¹) was born January 11, 1835 in Alabama, and died August 11, 1908 in Mexia, Limestone Co., Texas, USA.  She married BENJAMIN SHELDON ALLPHIN March 04, 1857 in Madisonville, Madison Co., Texas, son of ISRAEL ALLPHIN and BERNETTA COLLINS.  He was born January 28, 1835 in Payson, Adams Co., Illinois, USA, and died March 10, 1910 in Mexia, Limestone Co., Texas, USA.

Melissa's sister, Sarah, married Reuben Joshua Robbinson, the son of George Washington and Emily Cathrine Allphin Robbinson.  Emily Cathrin Allphin was the sister of Israel Dodge Allphin; therefore, the two Prichard girls married first cousins.

 

The 1870 Madison Co., Texas, US. Census, Midway PO, M593, Series 1597, page 306, details the Benjamin Shelton and Melissa Ann Prichard Allphin family living three dwellings apart from the George Washington and Emily Cathrine Allphin Robbinson families with her mother Martha Taylor Allphin.  Emily Cathrine Allphin Robbinson would have been Benjamin Shelton's aunt and Martha Taylor Allphin would have been his grandmother.

 

Sarah Prichard Robbinson is listed on this same page as living with her husband Reuben Joshua Robbinson in the same household as his father and mother and his grandmother, Martha Taylor Allphin.

Notes for BENJAMIN SHELDON ALLPHIN:

Richard and Evelyn Gray Honea visited Point Enterprise Cemetery, Point Enterprise, Texas (about three miles south-east of Mexia, Texas) on March 7, 2004.

 

Family tradition was that Benjamin Shelton Allphin had died in the late 1890's, and that Melissa Prichard Allphin had remarried.  I was told that Benjamin Shelton Allphin was buried in an unmarked grave at Allphin Cemetery; however, we found both his and Melissa Prichard Allphin's graves at Point Enterprise Cemetery. 

 

The woman buried as M.E. Gibson at Allphin is actually Mary Elizabeth Reynolds Corley Gibson.  My grandmother, Nannie Corley Seale, called this lady "Grandma Corley".  Mary Elizabeth Reynolds Corley Gibson was the wife of C.B. Corley, and the mother of John Willis Corley.

Sarah A. Prichard married Reuben Joshua Robbinson, the son of George Washington Emily Cathrine Allphin Robbinson.  Emily Cathrine Allphin was the sister of Israel Dodge Allphin.  Sarah's sister Melissa Ann Prichard married Benjamin Shelton Allphin, the son of Israel Dodge Allphin.  Sarah and Melissa married first cousins.  Zion Prichard and his father-in-law Stephen White practically lived next door to the Allphin/Robbinson families in the late 1840's and early 1850's.  When Zion Prichard and his wife died just prior to 1850, the children lived with the White family and still lived very close to the Allphin/Robbinson families.

John Willis Corley was mysteriously drowned in the Trinity River about December 6, 1915 leaving the widowed Mollie and his eight children.  Sherman, the eldest who was then thrity-one years of age assumed the responsibility of helping his mother rear the younger children.

Notes for RICHARD CLYDE SEALE:

 

 

The 1930 U.S. Census, Madison County, Texas, 2 J-PCT (North Part) lists a Richard C(lyde) Seales, age, 46, male, white, born in Texas.  He was 24 when he married, born in Texas, general farmer.  His wife is Nannie (Corley), female, white, 42 years old, married at 19 years of age, born in Texas, no occupation.  Son J.W. male, white, 12 years old, single, born in Texas, no occupation.  Son James is a male, white, 10 years old, single, born in Texas, no occupation.  Daughter Mollie Kate (Honea), is female, white, 7 years old, single, born in Texas, no occupation.  Daughter Millificent V(ergie) is female, white, 4 years old, single, born in Texas, no occupation.  This would be the last census because Richard "Clyde" died in 1933.  My mother, Mollie Kate Seale Honea, told me that her father, Richard Clyde Seale, died after contracting pneumonia in 1933.  He was called to Jury Duty in Madisonville in January of 1933, when it was very cold.  He and his first cousin, Milton Reynolds, walked to Madisonville from their homes just west of Midway, Texas, before dawn to be at the courthouse before nine that morning.  They got soaking wet from the cold rain that morning.  They spent the day waiting to be called, and when they did not have to serve had to walk back to Midway after dark.  Richard Clyde died less than a week latter when he developed pneumonia.  My mother said the only thing that she remembered about her father's funeral was the hymn was "Shall we Gather At The River".  I know very little about Richard Clyde Seale except that my grandmother said he was a very good man.  My mother never spoke of him.  He came across the river (the Trinity River) about 1902 or 1903 to live and work with his Aunt Cora Smith Reynolds (the sister of Mary Elizabeth Smith Seale).  He met Nannie Corley somewhere there in the Goose Creek (west of Midway), and they married about 1905.  The Corley family never seemed to think much of Nannie's choice of Richard Clyde for a husband.  The Corley family were all Methodist, and Richard Clyde and his family were more fundamentalists in their faith.  My recollections are that the Corley family (Nannie's brother/sisters) were all rather distant to our family.  I have a copy of letter dated about 1936 from Ella, one of Nannie's sisters to their mother, Mollie Allphin Corley, saying how pitiful Nannie's children were.  It was the height of the Great Depression, and Richard had died three years before leaving Nannie with five children still at home and no income.  They were very poor and lived basically at the generosity of the other people in the community.  As soon as they were old enough, and FDR had instituted the Civilian Conservation Corps (The Tree Army), JW and Jamie, the two boys, would go for six months at a time to work to get the family money.   My mother very seldom talked about her growing up without a father, but my Aunt Pat (Millificent Virgie) told me one time during a two visit to our home in Strafford, Missouri, how desperately poor the family was during those years.  They literally lived in any housing situation where people would allow them to live.  Most of the time they lived on the Parten Ranch near the Trinity River in abandoned field houses.  My grandmother, Nannie Corley Seale, never spoke ill of Richard "Clyde".  The family called him Clyde.  When Nannie died in Pasadena, Texas, in 1963, she told my mother that after 30 years without Clyde, she still missed him so much.  Evidently she loved him very much.  Aunt Pat told me that a particular fellow in Midway asked Nannie to marry him many times, but she refused because of her love for her deceased husband and to not bring another man to raise Clyde's children.  I ofter wonder what both of parents lives would have been like if they had not both lost their fathers when they were such little children.  (Warren Franklin Honea's father, Morgan Franklin Honea, died when Warren Franklin was less then three years old.)

He attended Greenwood Laboratory School (Lab School for South West Missouri State University) from Kindergarden through High School.      From about age 1 through the age of 16 Morgan grew up on a small farm Northeast of Springfield.   One month after his sixteenth birthday, he fell asleep at the wheel of his 1985 Mercedes Coupe and rolled the car 4 times taking out a farmers fence.   The car was totaled but fortunately Morgan survived the accident with only a small scratch on his neck from the seat belt and a great deal of emotional shock.    Morgan has been active with the youth at National Avenue Christian Church all his teenage years serving many weeks as a youth camp counselor, building houses for the poor in Mexico, and helping with chores on a farm that provides food and medical care to the indigent in the Applacian Mountains of Kentucky.     During his Senior year he was elected President of the Student Body of Greenwood High School.

 

Morgan received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (concentration in Accounting) from The University of Tulsa on May 10, 2003.     He is currently (2003) employed with Premier Financial Planning Group in Tulsa, Oklahoma as a Financial Planner/Analyst.
