The 'Fair Forest Story', is a story of the first settlers of Union County prior to the arrival or our Robert White Sr., and the Baptist Church of this area.  Names mentioned in this story, Howard's, Breed's, Gist's, Mulkey's, etc are all related to us through our Elias White's marriage to Anne Gibbs, and others, friends and associates, of our Robert White Sr and his children.  The importance goes beyond just friends, etc... Many families were invited to settle in Union County, following in the foot steps of friends and family. These types of writings give us hints on possible family origins, and are helpful in narrowing the search field, of our quest, for our roots.

The 'Fair Forest Story', is no longer in circulation, but can most likely be found in
libraries of South Carolina.

Many thanks to Pat H. Boone,
for making the book available to me
and our families.

Outside Union SC, on Hwy 49 S. there is a Historical Marker, hidden by bushes and trees that reads as follows:

South Carolina

Fairforest Meeting

1.5 Miles SW stood the original
Fairforest Baptist Church. The
members led by the Reverend
Philip Mulkey came from North
Carolina to Broad River about
1759. In 1762 the Church moved
to Fairforest where as the first
Baptist Church in the up country
it established other churches.
During the American Revolution
it was in a Tory controlled area.

The Plaque is a good mile or
so from the Current day
Lower Fairforest Baptist
Church, & the newer Cemetery
