Winnie Oleane White, 93, of  Malakoff, Texas, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in an Athens, Texas, nursing home.

Mrs. White was born May 31, 1907, in New Boston. She was a retired schoolteacher, a Baptist and past matron of New Boston Chapter No. 700, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include three nephews and their wives, Jack S. and Diane White of Malakoff; James H. and Earlene White of Dallas and Joe H. and Faye White of Mount Harmon, La.; and a number of nieces and other nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bates-Rolf Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff White officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery, Maud, Texas.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Research.

JOSEPH FRANKLIN WHITE:


Joseph Franklin White died 11 Aug 1946, at the McGee Hospital, New Boston, Texas, following a brief illness. His furneral was held at the First Baptist Church, in New Boston, TX, with the Rev., John B Bell, Rev., S R Malone and Rev. J H Carlin officiating. Burial was at the Rock Creek Cemetery, Bowie Co. 

Joseph Franklin was a resident of Bowie Co all of his life and a resident of New Boston for thirty six years, moving there from the Rock Creek Community in 1912. He engaged in the ginning business and saw mill business. He was a teacher in the Bowie Co schools for sixteen years teaching first in a one room school near Dekalb, Texas, where he met Exie Ethel Bridges. He had a natural aptitude for teaching and used thorough methods. He served as clerk of Bowie Co from 1906-1910.

Joseph Franklin White's obituary states: "He was converted in early life and united with the church. At the time of his passing he was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic Lodge, the Odd Fellows and the Woodmen of the World.

"A man of well developed social consciousness, Mr. White was a useful person. He had a gift for making friends and was ever loyal to them and his family.

"His interest in, and help for the needy knew no color lines or racial boundaries, as he recognized the need where he found it and was generous in doing his part to alleviate suffering and hardship.

"He labored in a simple and straightforward manner for the advancement and best interest of his church, civic, educational and community life and did it with good grace. Coming from a long line of leaders, he was outstanding in the family group for his leadership ability."

EXIE ETHEL BRIDGES WHITE:

Exie Ethel Bridges White was born 18 Dec 1878 in McCool, Attala County, MS, the daughter of John COPLIN (COPELAND) Bridges and Frances (JULIA) Ann Bennett Bridges. Exie funeral was held at the First Baptist Church of New Boston where she was a member and a charter member of the TEL Bible Class. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star. She was buried in the Rock Creek Cemetery Maud TX.
