Note on Sarah's Obituary
UP^
Sarah
was the member of a church known for it's active support
of missions. The well known Baptist Missionary Lottie Moon (for whom
the annual Southern Baptist International Missions Offering was named)
was called to be a missionary to China while a member of this church.
Though Warren White is mentioned in this obituary as
her
husband and buy
the way, was still alive, at its writing. He was
also listed in
the Christian Index,
but obviously, as reference to
Sarah R White, no obituary was found for
Warren.
We can also say that Warren White was a member of this
church
also,
I quote from the Obit: " ...That we
tender to her bereaved husband,
BROTHER WARREN WHITE, ...". Brother, the key here, to me
meaning member.
Sarah's
Obituary appeared in the Local News Paper:

Death of An Aged Lady.
Mrs. Sarah R. White, wife of Mr. T. W.
White, died on the 14 th of last month, at her home in this
city. Mrs. White had been in rather feeble health for some time
past. Mrs. White was of an unobtrusive and quiet nature, but
among those who knew her well she had many friends. She moved
from Augusta, with her husband in ’71. She was a consistent
member of the Baptist church. The funeral services were occurred
on the 15 th ult., and were conducted by Rev. W. H. Cooper of
Cedartown. |

Mr. T. W. White. -
An Aged and Worthy Citizen Passes Away.
Mr. T. Warren White died in this city,
on Tuesday night, at 11 o’clock. He had been in feeble health
for a year or more from debility, and a week or so ago his
afflictions assumed a serious turn and with a calmness and
resignation born of a life well spent, he waited the end, which
he knew was fast coming peacefully and without murmur.
Mr. White would have been 73 years old
if he had lived until Wednesday. He came to Cartersville in
1871. He had formerly lived in Rome and in Augusta. His wife
preceded him in death two years ago. He married her a widow, she
being formerly Mrs. Sarah Rhodes, and was a sister of Mr. H. E.
Wolf.
Mr. White was a brother of Mr. Charles
H. White. He was a member of the Baptist church and always lived
uprightly. He possesses numerous friends in the city, to whom
his death is a source of sorrow.
The funeral services took place from
the Baptist church yesterday evening and the remains were laid
to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. |

Our esteemed fellow-citizen, T. Warren White,
stopped a few minutes to chat with us, on Monday last. He informed us that
he had just received a
letter from his father, who lives near Spartanburg, S. C., and
who is now beyond his ninety-first year. The late cyclone in that
section of country struck the old gentleman's place and did considerable
damage. It blew down
two very large trees upon his house, crushing and destroying it.
His barn was completely demolished, his carriage and buggy were broken
so as to be useless. The old gentleman says he cannot work as well as he
could some thirty years ago, and feels the loss of the property ruined by
the wind. When he was ninety-one years old he laid the worm of a rail fence
some several hundred yards long.
Mr. White's grandfather was
also a vigorous veteran. He was a blacksmith, and on his
100th birthday took a pick in his hand, walked a mile to a shop
and worked a piece of steel on its point. He returned home (on foot) with
the pick, and throwing it upon the groundremarked "there, who of you can
do that when you are a century old?" We doubt if there are many as vigorous
old gentlemen.

Notes from Mike White:
Of course the article is a gold mine, from a
researchers point of view I see the following:
1. It confirms that Robert Jr and Sr are who we think they are...
2. This Warren of Bartow Co GA is definitely part of our family (with other
evidence)
3. Confirms their home residence of Spartanburg.
4. It offers additional support that Robert White Sr was a VETERAN 'of the
Revolutionary War'.
5. Confirms his trade as a Blacksmith.
6. Confirms he was still physically and mentally together at 100 years old.
7. It hints that Robert White Sr. may have been living in Spartanburg at least at 100
(1843), but was said to
have died on a journey to Union Co SC, where his two
daughters, Elizabeth and Susan still lived,
and son Elias, who left for Texas in 1845. Not to
mention the many Grand and Great Grand children.
I suspect but cannot prove that Robert Sr was living with
Robert Jr., for a time, we have never found them
on the 1840 census, which would have answered that
question... Sr died 1843. |

Note: If, in fact, T W White is Warren, then he
probably followed
Ralph Cooper down to
Bartow Co GA, this move is also
Mentioned in the Isaac
P Murphy Letter, 1886, Warren's first
cousin, also states a
(unnamed) brother of Warren's moved with him... Note:
Ralph Jackson Cooper, was the son of James W Cooper, life long friend
of Warren's father,
Robert White Jr., and long time member of Cedar Springs
Baptist Church, 1880
census of Bartow is a perfect match in age for Warren
and Ralph, I have no
doubt these are the same individuals that once lived in SC.
A look at the 1860/70
census for Bartow Co, may reveal the brother that moved
with Warren (Thomas?)
White to that county. Possibly earlier maybe 1850,
if the T W White in the
Cedar Springs minutes is NOT our Warren, as TW
was dismissed in
1859... but, this needs to known, just the same...

I believe this man to be the nephew of Mary Cooper White. the Post

related to the Patillo line.
The life long friend of Warren's father, Robert White
Jr., was James W. Cooper, brother to Mary Cooper wife of Robt.
Jr. His son was Ralph Jackson Cooper b. 15 Dec 1816.
My guess is this Sarah that Warren is married to (which may be her
second marriage) is his first cousin, and Ralph Cooper living next door is Sarah's brother. The birth year of this Sarah is 1819, same as I have for her
b. abt 1819, also Ralph's and Warren birth dates match exactly, with Sptg SC documents.
