James W White - Show Birth date as: 6 May 1819
Death date as: 30 Oct 1843

Note:
As bible records are prone to errors, I must mention
that in 1870, Samuel White (son of Wm White) son
Wm F White was living in Clarke Co GA, next door
to a James W White, 26 years old, he was the son of
a James W White on the 1860 census of same county
that was 40 years old, would have been born 1819/20!
What are the chances of this happening??? and there
not to be a connection... see Samuel White's web page
for the census details.

As there is NO source given for the Bible record of
Robert Jr and Sr., and there are known errors that are
verifiable, it could be that James W White did not die
in 1843.

**Notes on Household 29 - 29 above:
This James W White is the son of a James W White on
the 1860 Census below, as Wm F White was living next door
in 1870, there is a possibility that the James W White on
the 1860 is the Son of Robert White Jr. This James was
said to have died in 1843, he was dismissed from the
Cedar Springs Baptist Church in Spartanburg in 1841.
Bible records are well known for there mistakes, the age
in 1860 matches that age of James W White son of Robt.
I post it here for the Records, though it may not be ours:

Aged Citizen Dies.

Mr. Charles H. White Passes Away at His Home, Near This City.

Mr. Charles H, White died at the home of his son, Mr. Walter White,
near the city, last Friday morning. Mr. White had been helpless since
receiving a stroke of paralysis several years ago. Though he suffered
a great deal, he bore his sufferings with much patience and resignation.
He was a member of the Baptist church and lived an upright Christian life.
He was a citizen much respected by all who knew him.

Mr. White was originally from South Carolina and moving to Bartow just
after the war followed farming near Ligon. He finally went into merchandizing
in this city, from which he retired on account of failing health some five years ago.

He leaves three children, Mr. Walter White, Dr. Claude White and Miss Fannie White.

The funeral services were conducted at the grave by Rev. B. P. Allen and the remains were interred at Oak Hill.

Death of Miss Lu White.

The sad intelligence reached this city by telegram yesterday morning that Miss Lu White had died at Lumberton, Miss. The telegram stated that she had died of gastritis and had only been sick twenty-four hours, and that her remains would reach the city today.

Miss White was the daughter of Mr. C. H. White and was a most estimable lady. She had been teaching school for some time at Montezuma until a month or two ago when Mrs. H. A. Camp, securing her a situation as teacher, induced her to accompany her to Lumberton, Miss.

Her death will be deeply deplored for she had many friends.

Two Hearts That Beat As One.
Cupids Capering Career Culminates in Cementing Two Happy Hearts at Hymen’s Altar.

On Wednesday evening, October 15, at 8 o’clock p. m., Mr. C. Walter White, and Miss A. Lena Gilreath, were married. The beautiful marriage ceremony was performed at the residence of the bride’s father in Cassville, by Rev. J. B. Robbins.  The attendants were, Mr. Tom P. Trammell and Miss Lillie Gilreath, Mr. W. L. Rowland and Miss Cynthia Myers, Mr. Lem. Mumford and Miss Hellen Chunn. It was one of those happy occasions when youth, beauty, mirth and music combine to make the evening hours glide happily and swiftly away.  Mr. White is the junior member of the firm of C. H. & C. W. White, merchants of this city. He is young, energetic and prosperous, and gives promise of developing into one of the sterling business men of our city. His young wife is intelligent, accomplished and beautiful. The union is a happy one. It is the consummation of love’s first young dream.  It is the happy realization of the rosy tinted fancies of youth. We write under the inspiration of cake – a whole box of cake –sent especially for the editor. Between bites we exclaim, “the sacred flame of wedded love, luxuriantly indulge it!” May success follow you, and happiness crown your days.

A Discussion about Charles H White

Appears Charles H White may not have died in the Civil War
or otherwise, according to the SC Bible Records Charles died
21 Jul 1863, the Civil War record shows 17 Sep 1862, still under
investigation. Possibilities; Whom ever made the entry into the Bible
record may have error'd, forgot and or never knew where Charles
was, only that he served in the War, they may have been confused
with another Charles. Cedar Springs Baptist or the Spartan I would
think would have recorded this, in fact Robert Jr, Charles father, was
the church clerk and recorded every move his children made and
deaths in the family, such as the death of John Willis White, the
brother of Charles, in fact this was in the Newspaper, 'Spartan', a
memorial was written on John's behalf, therefore I have concluded,
that the bible record and the civil war record are in error.  It was/is very
common to have mistakes in Bibles Records, and even the Civil War
records, especially, the Battle at Sharpsburg, so many thousands died
or were never accounted for, simply buried on the battle field, very
easy in those days to loose track, and if a soldier deserted, at times I
am sure he was classed as killed in action, as even happens in modern
wars and conflicts.  This bible record didn't even show Elias White,
son of Robt Sr., and others were left out or names written incorrectly,
this same bible was listed in the SC Bibles records, was without source...
however, other sources have verified some dates.

The Marriage record of Charles H White and Kate P. V. Henderson,
and the 1860 Laurens Co Census, and 1870/1880 Bartow Co GA Census
clearly shows our Charles did NOT die in the War, further, Isaac P Murphy
wrote in his famous letters, "That Warren White, was living in Cartersville
[Bartow Co] GA with a brother...", clearly, Charles H. White.

Antietam Battle Sharpsburg Maryland
September 16-18, 1862

On September 16, Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan confronted Lee's Army of Northern Virginia at Sharpsburg, Maryland. At dawn September 17, Hooker's corps mounted a powerful assault on Lee's left flank that began the single bloodiest day in American military history.

Attacks and counterattacks swept across Miller's cornfield and fighting swirled around the Dunker Church. Union assaults against the Sunken Road eventually pierced the Confederate center, but the Federal advantage was not followed up. Late in the day, Burnside's corps finally got into action, crossing the stone bridge over Antietam Creek and rolling up the Confederate right. At a crucial moment, A.P. Hill's division arrived from Harpers Ferry and counterattacked, driving back Burnside and saving the day.

Although outnumbered two-to-one, Lee committed his entire force, while McClellan sent in less than three-quarters of his army, enabling Lee to fight the Federals to a standstill. During the night, both armies consolidated their lines. In spite of crippling casualties, Lee continued to skirmish with McClellan throughout the 18th, while removing his wounded south of the river. McClellan did not renew the assaults. After dark, Lee ordered the battered Army of Northern Virginia to withdraw across the Potomac into the Shenandoah Valley.

September 17, 1862 was the bloodiest day of the Civil War. Federal losses totaled 12,410 and the Confederates lost 10,700 men. Although neither side won a decisive victory, General Robert E. Lee's failure to carry the war into the north was significant to the outcome of the war. The battle also gave President Lincoln the opportunity to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, which on January 1, 1863, declared free all slaves in States still in rebellion against the United States.

Estimated Casualties: 23,100 total

then moved back to Richmond Co GA .... though they

Living in Richmond Co in 1870 is Mary [White] Rhodes, Aunt to L R White,
also, his sister, Susan [White] Rhodes, and his brother Warren White.  It
appears L R's wife Sarah E, has passed away, as she is not on the 1880 census,
as lewis is in Texas living with brother Jesse in Smith Co, as a cotton buyer. In
1882 in Smith Co TX, is recorded a L. R. White marring a M E Nelson, can find
no records after the marriage.

Note: In 1880 we find our Lewis R White living with his brother
Jesse in Tyler Smith Co TX, 45 yrs old, what a surprise...
It is also interesting to note that their father Robt. White Jr.
died in 1880. However, Lewis was dismissed from Cedar
Springs Baptist Dec 1858, and is not recorded in the County
again... We next fine Louis in Richmond Co GA in 1860 and
1870, in 1870 Lewis is married to a Sarah E, and has no
children, Sarah E, must have died before 1880, And then
he moved to TX by 1880, also living in Richmond Co GA
are his sister Susan Rhodes, Aunt Mary Rhodes, his brother
Warren.  The last record I have found on L R is in 1882, it
is recorded in Smith Co TX he possibly married a M. E. Nelson.
Have not found Louis after this event.

Note 1880 census:
In the same household is a Servant, 8 boarders of
different trades, no relation, Jesse T White owned
