Louisa's Timeline: 1. 1846 - Louisa's family arrives in Bowie Co TX from Union Co SC. 2. 1848 - Birth of Louise, Oct 1848, Bowie Co TX. [1848 on Grave stone) 3. 1850 - Census incorrectly shows Louisa V as Susan V. White, who may have died in child birth with her mother?. 4. 1855 - Mother, Polly passes away. 5. 1855 - Susan White passes away, same year as mother, Polly. 5. 1858 - Father, Benjamin passes away. 6. 1858 - Louisa is enrolled & admitted into School for the Deaf, in Waxahachie Ellis County Texas, for a period of 7 years. (suspect Charles & Mary White Tapp had her enrolled) 7. 1858 - Louisa meets her future husband, Archibald Conner, also deaf at this school, his parents were living in Ellis Co 1860. 8. 1860 - Census, Louisa is not found on the Bowie Co Census, her siblings were all placed in families of relatives & found on the 1860 census. 9. 1865 - Louise leaves the school of the deaf, and returns to Bowie Co TX. 10. 1870 - Census, Louisa is living with her Brother William Pinckney White, in Bowie Co TX. 11. 1876 - Louise marries her school classmate, Archibald Conner.	12. 1876 - Archie & Louise living in Grayson Co TX, west of Bowie Co TX. 13. 1877 - Oct 4th, Louisa gives birth to 1st child, Effie Victoria Conner, in Grayson. 14. 1880 - Census - Archie & Louise still living in Grayson Co TX. 15. 1880 - Oct 18th, Louisa gives birth to 2nd child, White Tapp Conner. (I believe the name, remembers her family, and Charles & Mary [White] Tapp's family, who probably enrolled her in the deaf school, and cared for her brother, Ben Franklin White, raising him until adulthood. The Tapp family is remembered for their kindness and generosity. 16. 1884 - Jul 23rd, Lousia gives birth to 3rd & last child, Archibald Conner Jr. 17. 1888 - 1895 Special Federal Census taken on Deaf individuals, May 19, 1892. Deaf Study using 1888-1895 Special Federal Deaf Census, Archie and Louisa both are interviewed and filled out forms. Louise was ask if she knew of any other relatives that were deaf, she replied, 'an Uncle'. [that would be her uncle Robert White s/o Elias] 18. 1892 - Living on Family Farm Martin Springs Grayson Co TX. 19. 1900 - Census, Louisa listed as Lucinda in error on census. 20. 1904 - Louisa passes away, buried at Georgetown Cemetery Grayson Co TX, Grave Marker name "Lou Conner", Cemetery List her name as, Louise Victoria Conner. 21. 1910 - Census, Archie Sr living with son, Archie Jr. Grayson Co TX. 22. 1920 - Census, Archie Sr (76) living with son White Tapp Conner. 23. 1921 - Archie Sr passes away, buried with Wife, Louisa, shared grave stone.
Sources of Deaf School Data: U. S. Special Census on Deaf Family Marriages and Hearing Relatives, 1888-1895. On this Census, Louisa answers a question, that she had a Uncle that was also Deaf, that would have been her Uncle Robert White, son of Elias White. Evidence to support this family connection: Louisa's daughter Effie, had a son, Ernest Luther Conner, he returned to Bowie Co TX and married his cousin, Fannie LaVelle White, daughter of William Walter & Fannie P [Letcher] White. they are both on the 1920, 1930 Census New Boston Bowie Co TX, they divorced sometime after 1930, Fannie is buried with her maiden name, Fannie Lavelle White. UP^ Archibald R "Archie" & Louisa [White] Conner's Land UP^ Joint ownership with John W & Sarah Rice [Conner] Burgess Martin Springs - Grayson County Texas

There was once a community/town west of Pottsboro called Martin Springs, where a natural spring is. This spring is connected to Spout Springs, Brogdon Springs, etc. I think it was near the present intersection of Kyker Lane and 120 west of Pottsboro. It had a post office and a cotton gin at least. I have a postcard postmarked Martin Springs, TX and cotton gin receipts to my great great great grandfather Robert Daniel who was one of the early settlers, coming here in 1866 from Missouri to west of Pottsboro." Martin Springs community was located between Pottsboro and Willow Springs. Records of the Post Office Department in the National Archives show that a post office was established at Martin Springs, Grayson County, Texas on Nov. 8, 1895. Women would take their clothing to was in the springs, using tree limbs to hang the clean garments to dry. Tubs and pots were left at the springs for this weekly chore. When the county road gang worked through the area, they would dam up the spring and form a large pool to water their stock and setting up headquarters at Martin Springs while they worked in that part of the county. The school house was a small frame building which was torn down in 1911. All of the buildings have been gone from the area since the 1920's. At one time Martin Springs had a cotton gin owned by a man named Thomas. There was, also, a blacksmith shop, two or three houses and a store.

Notes from Betty Mabe and Janet Ward:

While talking to Betty this morning, I did learn something. Louisa C White was deaf/dumb.
However, she was married to Archibald Conner. They had five red headed little boys. Believe
they are buried at Rock Creek Cemetery in Bowie County. Information was given to Betty by
Aunt Lee. Only thing I have found is from Special Census on Deaf People. Date is 1892.
It is a little confusing with state of Tennessee and Texas, which may be in error.

I have found more. W Tapp is White Tapp Conner. Father is Archie Conner and mother is Louisa V White on Death Certificate. The Tapp is what caught my eye as well. Believe Archie died after 1920; but, haven't found anything so far.
Still stumped on Luther. Possible out-of-wed lock.
Not sure that Tennessee was not transcription error. The school was in Washington, DC, I believe. Still looking.
If I find more, will let you know.

MARTIN SPRINGS, TX

MARTIN SPRINGS, TEXAS. Martin Springs, just off State Highway 11 and four miles south of Sulphur Springs in central Hopkins County, was settled by Mrs. A. M. Ardis in 1873. In 1877 she sold her home to Crofford Martin, for whom the community was named. A public school was operating there by 1900 and in 1905 had an enrollment of 108.

UP^ The Conner family arrived in Grayson Co TX 1866, from MO, on the Daniel wagon train with Daniel's, Burgess, Morton & Gardenhour Families The travelled from Jackson Co MO to Ellis Co TX, then to Grayson County Texas where the families settled, 1866. Some of the Jackson county Missouri people of that time had to temporarily leave their homes before and during the civil war because of the intensity of the fighting and activity of the raiders.
