Children of Tillman & Sally
"Not Known at this time"

NOTES:

Basically, Tillman is still a mystery, and Sarah his wife as well...

Tilman's wife, Sally, was the Sister of Lewis Rhodes, who married Tillman's
sister Mary. Tilman & Sally, were said to have moved to GA, this was quoted in
Isaac P Murphy's letter in 1886, published in the Union County Heritage Book, it
goes on the say that Tilman died in GA.  (Isaac Murphy, a grandson of Robt White Sr).

SC Bible record confirms birth date, of Tillman.

We can speculate that possibly Tilman and Sarah (Sally) moved to Richmond Co GA,
where the Rhodes family lived, in good numbers, Sarah's family was there and so was
the Sister of Tillman.

Tilman's was remembered by his Siblings, his nephew's were named after him, in
several of  the White families. His sister Mary named one son Tilman White Rhodes.
Stephen White in Texas named a son Tilman B White.

Comment on Tillman's possible Name Origins:

...Regarding the statement "Tighlman Bobo" (a common misspelling for Tilman in those days"

...that's not quite right. The name Tilghman, pronounced Tillman, became popular after the Revolutionary War,
owing to Tilghman Tench, aide-de-camp to General George Washington. Because people didn't know how to
spell it, a lot of children named for Tilghman Tench were named Tillman. So Tilghman isn't the misspelling -- Tillman is...

As Tillman's father served in the Revolution for six years, it is possible that Tillman's name originated from "Tilghman Tench"...?

A Family Letter about the Rhodes Family

Provided by:
Mary Ruth (Norman) Thomas

Letter Written by:
Mrs. Althen W. (Rhodes) Hunsalen?
Logan, UT
Sept 27, 1980

A Family Letter from a Descendant of the Rhodes, addressed to Mary Ruth (Norman) Thomas reveals some interesting details of the Rhodes family of Union Co SC and Richmond Co GA.

Biram Bobo Rhodes and Awry Whitlow Rhodes had just two children - William Francis Rhodes and Dicy Jane Bobo Rhodes- as you can see Biram Bobo Rhodes died in 1831 and Awry married #2, 9 Dec 1831,  Massey M. Copeland.  William Francis Rhodes (Uncle Billy) and Dicy Jane Rhodes came to Utah in March 1889.  Had been baptized members of the Mormon Church at Rhodes Mill Pond in Augusta, Richmond Co., Georgia and taught to keep records by the Mormon missionaries.  They brought many family records with them to Utah.  I have a picture of Awry Whitlow Rhodes Copeland handed down to me by my Mother from her Father.

I have been searching in Old 96 District- which Union, Abbeville and Laurens, Newberry, Edgefield and Spartanburg were a part of, for the parents of Awry Whitlow.  I can't get positive proof enough that the Genealogical library will accept as proof  as yet.

I have recently learned that John Rhodes, father of Biram Bobo Rhodes had 6 sons sons from records of William Francis Rhodes- Mary (Polly) Bobo Rhodes speaks of only one son HIRAM in her will made 7 April 1815, Union County SC.

I have just recently learned Mary's daughter Sarah (Sally) Rhodes who went back to Union County SC with her mother and married Tilman White a son of Robert White and Mildred Whitehead, after her mothers death. At her fathers, John Rhodes death Jan 1808, at Bedford, Richmond County GA. that Sarah or Sally was left under guardianship of Absolom Rhodes, John's brother. 1812.

"John Rhodes, 9 May 1798 notified the public in Richmond County GA, not to deal with his wife Pollie and he was determined to dispose of his own property and pay no debts except those he contracted".  John Rhodes parents were William Rhodes and Elizabeth Wofford Rhodes.  25 Dec 1789,  John Rhodes came personally before justices and made oath that William Rhodes his father of Union County SC-  I have a copy of the old "indenture signature of his father and mother.  Also copy of his oath and sale of land by William to Jesse.

Lewis Bobo Rhodes, a son of John Rhodes, came to Richmond County GA, after Mary (Polly) Bobo Rhodes death.  Walter A. Clark, who wrote the book, "A Lost Arcadia" , had access to Lewis Rhodes Family Bible, in which gave his marriage date to Mary White a daughter of Robert White and Mildred Whitehead, as 5 Feb 1810, Union County SC.

Mary Bobo Rhodes had 152 acres of land in Union County SC, on which she lived with Sally, Permelia, Matilda and Mernema- daughters and Hiram a younger son who was to live on the property.  Mary's brother Kindred Bobo was the executor, of her Will.
