Edited Map of Old Granville County NC

Some Research in Progress below |
Why do I/We think this Robert White of Caswell County NC is our Robert?
In 1788 when Robert arrived in
Union Co SC, the whole area was called 96th District SC. "See Current Status of Robert White Sr Research above" Last update Feb 22, 2018 Click the highlighted Links below to view the evidence in detail - Use BACK ARROW to Return Here
1.
Isaac Murphy Letter of
1871 2. William Whitehead,
father-in-law to Robert White Sr, in his
Will names his oldest child
daughter, Milly 4.
1778
- A Robert White is living near Wm Whitehead in Granville Co NC, Wm
near Tar River NC. 4.
1779 - Will of John Dennis Sr leaves
Blacksmith tools to son John Jr, 'now being cared for by Robert
White, now in the Carolina's (NC). 6.
1786 NC
Census - was taken between 1784-1787, Caswell Co NC
was turned in 1786. Listed on the 8.
Other Caswell Families
migrated to Laurens Co SC, some probably with our group, such as
Hudson
Berry 9.
Some of the Families of
Caswell, also had lived in Hanover Co VA, just a note here, I tested
my
DNA and 10. I am finding that other
families of Union Co SC had also come this same path...
Murphy's,
Jacksons, Gibson, This mainly, circumstantial evidence, has lead me to formulate the THEORY of Robert White of Caswell being ours...
DNA - we need many more White's on
our lineage and other branches to test, thus far, I must be the only |
A
Marriage before Mildred? - A Case is made!
This
has to be mentioned here... in 1776, Robt Sr., is 33 years old, that may
be an age a male Milly born 1745 ! - A factual discussion... I do NOT
believe MILDRED WHITEHEAD WHITE
was born in 1745, otherwise it is to say,
Note: Milly's father
William Whitehead lived
in Granville Co NC, Goshen District at least from
1769? to 1778, Comments from Cousin Donald Clarke a descendant of BF White: On Robert White's marrage, he came of age at the end of the French and Indian War so he could have been off to war & didn't marry until after it. Also he had a skilled trade, blacksmithing. Unless his father was also a blacksmith, Robert would have been apprenticed or indentured to learn his trade. His contract may have not let him marry until he finished his training. Third he may have been married to Millie and their first children died young or were miscarriages or stillbirths and buried in Virginia or North Carolina and the children born later didn't know about them. The children are the ones that put the information in the Bibles. |
This is a work in progress since, 2011. 1st Wife Mildred (Milly) White died 1807! 2nd Wife Elizabeth ???? Married Robert by 1810 (via census)
A list of All "ELIZABETH's
(Betsey's)" Recorded at Padgett's Creek Baptist Church 1788-1833
Second: Lower Fairforest began recording its own
minutes in 1809, that is why some members are never recorded
Robert White Sr. - is Charter member #1 at the Lower Fairforest. They
did record he and Elizabeth's departure in 1829. LIST OF "Elizabeth's" - PADGETT'S CREEK BAPTIST: (Candidates for Robert White Sr's 2nd known wife)
Howard, Betsey Jan 16, 1803 Received by
experience.
White, Elizabeth May 12, 1812
Received by Letter.
(Could this be the
Elizabeth Howard from 1808 above?
the 2nd wife of Robt White Sr???) |
|
Many Marriages were performed by the
Rev's at Padgett's Creek From the list of Elizabeth's under Padgett's some can be eliminated, simply by seeing their husbands name as 'wife of....'. If Robert did marry within a 3 year period after Milly's death, and the fact that Robert was very Baptist, and I would guess, would expect his wife to be, also, be in attendance at the Padgett's... or was already...
As a Blacksmth and Farmer, Robert Sr., would not have
had time to shop |
Meaning of:
"RECEIVED BY EXPERIENCE vs by LETTER" Received by experience or letter, indicates these are older adults, who have already been received, or baptized, maybe at other churches and were in good standing with there prior church. Knowing of above information may assist us in determining or sorting out the many Elizabeth's that were in attendence at the Padgett's, and thus narrow the field down to fewer possibilities. 2018 Update: Elizabwth Howard, above, appears to be our current candidate as Robert White Sr's 2nd wife. She was also suggested by another researcher. |
